What is a Solid Axle Swap (SAS)? A SAS is when you replace the entire Independent Front Suspension with a Mono Beam front axle (solid axle). SAS can also be used to upgrade from you're stock axles.
Is a SAS for you?
- Need more lift from your IFS equipped rig?
- Desire more flex from your IFS equipped rig?
- Are you wearing out or braking CV joints in your IFS equipped rig?
- Just want something different?
What do you gain from a SAS?
- You can have what ever front rear that best suits your needs.
- You can use suspension components of your choice. (ie, coil, leaf, coil over)
- Increased flex. Keep those tires on the ground where they belong!
- Increased Strength. This will vary depending on the front end used.
- Ease of repair.
- The list can go on forever.
Who does not need a SAS?
- Those vehicles that already came equipped with a solid axle.
- High speed "desert racer style" rigs.
If you answered yes to any of these questions, you should consider a SAS.
What are my choices for a SAS? This is only limited by how much you wish to spend, and how complex you wish to get.
Here are a few pics of a typical SAS. These are from an S-10 that received a D44 from a shoe box bronco, that got 8lug outers to match the rear Dana 60 that was narrowed to match the front.
